Philosophy

We approach our Peruvian Horse business with integrity, following these operational and quality standards:

  • We guarantee honest representation of every horse we offer.
  • We will provide you with a properly trained horse.
  • We ourselves manage the breeding, care, and training of our horses.  This results in a more consistent horse, and allows more practical purchase prices for you.
  • Your overall satisfaction is our primary goal.
  • We support and seek the latest research and medical diagnostics.
  • Our horses receive the best medical care available anywhere.

Cornell's Equine Research Park, the CU Hospital for Animals,
and The Baker Institute for Animal Health, are all conveniently located in Ithaca, New York.  Phoenix Ranch is less than a one hour drive to Cornell's world-class facilities.  This active partnership gives Phoenix Ranch an unprecedented advantage to breeding excellence.

Our Response to  DSLD/ESPA

Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis

Also known as:

Equine Systemic Proteoglycan Accumulation

The latest ongoing research has shown DSLD/ESPA to be a systemic connective tissue disease that is found in many breeds.  Many breeders believe this to be a myth and will tell you it does not exist.

DSLD/ESPA does exist for most breeds.  Therefore, our philosophy is awareness, learning, and support for on-going research.  We apply every available diagnostic tool in our breeding program.

Does this mean that we will never breed or sell an affected horse?  Of course not, it means that we acknowledge the problem, and breed responsibly to reduce the incidence of producing affected horses.

Beyond Training

Good horses are made by good owners.  We will provide you with a properly trained horse, but the unique trust between horse and rider must still be established.  For example, we can practice going over obstacles and water, but it will never be the same for the horse as when you are his rider, during your encounter on the trail.  Therefore, we recommend your new horse accompany a more seasoned horse and rider, a rider that transmits confidence to his mount, until you establish the same trust.  Ultimately you have to make the finished product.  No matter how well a horse is trained it is still up to the new owner to mold the horse to his or her needs.

Prospective Breeders

If you are contemplating your purchase to begin a business venture, we commend your considering Peruvian Horses; the horse for which supply in the foreseeable future cannot meet the increasing demand.  As we have previously suggested: Own what everyone wants, not what everyone has!

Stallions

We do not sell our Peruvian Horses.  We have horses for you to look at, inquire about and ride. Matches are made, rather than sales contracted.  We are confident the horses will sell themselves, and you will fall in love.  If not, then you may rest assured that there is no obligation for your visit.
